Tynemouth Aquarium is the plaice to be!

Tynemouth Aquarium re-opened its doors on Saturday 4th July and is pleased to report the weekend went swimmingly!
The North East’s Aquarium is ready to welcome visitors once again to marvel their hundreds of aquatic creatures including seals, sharks and seahorses.
The Aquarium recently refurbished a number of exhibits, facilities and has a brand new restaurant called ‘Bay and Laurel’ – now open to everyone whether or not they are visiting the Aquarium.
Sharon Hedley, General Manager at Tynemouth Aquarium said: “From site refurbishments and launching the new restaurant, all then followed by 3months of closure and new safety measures it has been an incredibly busy time for us.
“We would like to thank visitors and members for their ongoing support and I would personally like to give the team a huge shout out – they’ve all been fantastic!” Sharon added.
There have been so many changes at Tynemouth Aquarium; visitors can expect strict Covid-19 safety measures in place, alongside the refurbishments including a new River Giants exhibit home to huge fresh water species such as Red Tailed Catfish and giant Black Pacu.

Visitors will be asked to read a charter before entering, outlining the site’s enhanced cleaning, regular hand sanitising stations, increased signage and a one way journey through the aquarium so visitors can observe social distancing. Please click here for full details of our new safety measures.
Tynemouth Aquarium is open to the public 7days per week 10am-5pm with last entry at 4pm. Tickets can be purchased online in advance at a discounted rate here or simply purchased on arrival.
The Bay and Laurel restaurant is also open everyday!
