The Amazon is the largest and most bio-diverse rainforest in the world. Covering almost 40% of the South American cotenant and stretching across four countries the Amazon Rainforest has provided the perfect home for thousands of different species for thousands of years. Every food chain starts with plans and as the Amazon contains over 40,000 different type and 16,000 different types of trees many complex food webs have started to form with many animals and plants exclusive to this region it really is an amazing place.
It is very unlikely that the majority of people will ever see the Amazon with their own eyes as not only is it thousands of miles away but is very difficult to venture through as it is thick with forestation and full of dangerous animals so instead we brought a little bit of the Amazon to Tynemouth. Get on your safari gear and come with us on an adventure but please leave your machetes and poison darts at home we’ve already cleared the perfect path for you.

From the tiny fish that hide in the foliage filled water to some of the most fun loving marmosets you ever will see we have tried to provide a range of Amazonian wonders. The Amazon is not just a home to some of the most interesting animals of the planet but provides us an important oxygen supply as it accounts for 20% of all oxygen produced worldwide. Currently there are lots of threats to the Amazon Rainforest and here at Tynemouth we are focused on highlighting little changes that can be made to help reduce the damage to this amazing environment.
